Cultural Activities

El Salvador's location in central America attributes to its wet and dry Tropical climate and also makes it susceptible to hurricanes, tropical storms and other severe weather.  In October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch battered central America, causing billions of dollars in damage and thousands of lost lives.  In El Salvador, more than 200 lives were lost as a result of the hurricane and the country suffered millions of dollars in damages to its agricultural production.  More than 80% of El Salvador's maize crop was lost and its coffee and sugar cane crop were severely affected.
